The former head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Cardinal Lubomyr (Husar) believes that we can get rid of Communism and consequences of the totalitarian regimes by means of a smile. According to a correspondent of Unian.net, the former head of UGCC said so at the press-conference when the declaration of Ukrainian intellectuals in support of the recent address of the traditional Churches on the social situation was made public. The cardinal stressed that each of us should realize that we do not live in an “ideal world.” “We live in the world, which was, to a considerable extent, created by the 20th century, its awful genocides, lack of morality, two world wars, dictatorships, totalitarian states. All this left very bad impressions on us. But it does not mean that one cannot repair this, one can,” said the cardinal. Therefore, in his opinion, “our task today should be to begin a modest but consistent way of change: to respect one’s neighbour, to shake hands with a neighbour, to give a hand to a needy, to smile at each other. You might say that this is a communist, and how can one achieve anything by funny things? Yes, this is the only way but very effective way to overcome Communism,” stressed the archbishop.
