The Supreme Council's Committee on Science and Education proposes to the parliament to reject the Bill “On making alterations to certain laws of Ukraine regarding religious organizations establishing educational institutions.”

KYIV — The Committee on Science and Education of the Supreme Council of Ukraine proposes to the parliament to reject the Bill “On making alterations to certain laws of Ukraine regarding religious organizations establishing educational institutions.”  The committee set out this position in a draft resolution which was submitted on December 4 to the Supreme Council by four Ukrainian deputies. The Institute of Religious Freedom reported this story.

The members of the committee supported the position of the Chief Scientific Expert Board of the Supreme Council of Ukraine that the bill contradicts Ukraine’s Constitution and laws, particularly, Article 35 of the constitution, according to which “the church and religious organizations in Ukraine are separated from the state, and the school from the church” and the provisions of Article 9 of the Law of Ukraine “On Education” and Article 6 of the Law of Ukraine “On the Freedom of Worship and Religious Organizations.”
