The Bishops' Council, which is being held in Moscow, on Thursday made a step in providing greater autonomy to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) of the Moscow Patriarchate.
“The members of the Council unanimously supported the request of Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv and All Ukraine to dedicate a separate chapter to the UOC in the charter of the Moscow Patriarchate,” the press service of the forum said to Interfax journalists.
This initiative was supported by the participants of the Council. In addition, now in the statute of the Moscow Patriarchate will mention that the center of the UOC is located in Kyiv. Finally, the Higher Church Court will now extend its jurisdiction to the entire territory of the Moscow Patriarchate, with the exception of Ukraine.
As the press service of the Council explains, “these amendments, in fact, have recorded that this is also the case in practice.”
The decisions of the Local Councils and the Council of Bishops are binding on the UOC-MP.
