The Council of Bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA kindly requests prayers for the parishes and faithful of the Metropolia, as well as for the Metropolia Spiritual Center, which is located in South Bound Brook/Somerset, NJ, and for all who are in the path of Hurricane Sandy, which is projected to impact the U.S. Eastern Seaboard, press service of UOC in USA informs.

In the past, the spiritual headquarters of the UOC of the USA as well as several parishes of the US Eastern Seaboard experienced major flooding due to powerful storms and consequences of their paths. A few years ago, almost every building of the Metropolia Center in South Bound Brook, NJ sustained damages following the impact of the natural disaster.

"We fervently request that clergy and faithful of our Metropolia offer special prayers for the victims of hurricane Sandy, which is causing heavy damage on the East Coast of our nation this week.  We are all united as friends and neighbors in the states and communities affected by hurricane Sandy and as a family in Christ we pray for protection from the consequences of the storm. We must be eager and ready to offer refuge and help to those who may be endangered or harmed. Let us offer our assistance and cooperation with the public safety officials, and stand ready to assist in all efforts of outreach and help.  Our Metropolia Center once again will be a staging ground for power and utility companies from seven area states who will be traveling in to assist in repair efforts throughout the Mid-Atlantic states. There are many channels of support for the hurricane victims. This week and coming Sunday, we ask you to consider making a collection that will benefit the Church’s Relief and Development Fund, which will provide assistance to the Metropolia Center and parish communities affected by the storm" - reads the address.

As the storm approaches, the clergy and faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA are urged to offer their heartfelt prayers that Almighty God protect all those who are in the path of Hurricane Sandy.
