President Volodymyr Zelensky met with the Secretary for Relations with States of the Holy See, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.

President Zelensky expressed gratitude to Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher and Pope Leo XIV for their support of Ukraine. He noted that a delegation from the Holy See was present in Kyiv during the recent significant Russian attacks.
"Russia does not want to cease these attacks, which makes it all the more important to continue working for peace. A summit-level meeting could be one format that contributes to this effort. I appreciate the Vatican's willingness to host such a meeting and to persist in facilitating its occurrence," Zelensky emphasized.
During the meeting, special attention was paid to the Church's activities in Ukraine. The president thanked the clergy for their support of both military personnel and civilians. They also discussed Ukraine's path to EU membership.
"It is crucial that the Vatican supports our European choice and recognizes that Ukraine is doing everything necessary to become a full-fledged member of the European Union," the president stated.
