The Volyn Regional Council has passed an address regarding homosexuality and the legalization of same-sex marriages.

The Volyn Regional Council passed an address regarding homosexuality and the legalization of same-sex marriages. The author of the project is the deputy head of the council’s committee on spirituality, religions, education and science, culture and mass media, a deputy, Protopriest Vitalii Sobko.

The deputies approached President Viktor Yanukovych, the Cabinet of Ministers and Supreme Council of Ukraine with a request to prevent the destruction of the ancient principles of the Ukrainian nation and not to compromise the traditional moral and family values which are the norm of life of the vast majority of the Ukrainian society, particularly of the Volyn region.

“The consequences of the erroneous path toward which we are being persistently pushed, are so serious that we will not silently watch perverts using mottoes of the struggle against discrimination and ensuring of rights of sexual minorities to distance our laws from social morals, spread sexual promiscuity, which inevitably leads to degeneration of the nation. We oppose the introduction of an unnatural and abnormal way of life as a natural and normal one,” reads the document.

In addition, by its address, the Regional Council supported the Declaration of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations On the Negative Attitude toward the Phenomenon of Homosexuality and Attempts to Legalize So-Called Same-Sex Marriages (registration of same-sex partnerships) approved on May 15, 2007, and also called to support legislative initiatives against propaganda of homosexuality and registration of same-sex marriages.

The resolution of the Volyn Regional Council will also be forwarded to the heads of all the regional councils of Ukraine with a request to support it, the website of the Volyn Eparchy of UOC-Kyivan Patriarchate reported.
