The Spiritual Board of Muslims of Ukraine on 26 August organized a traditional iftar (celebratory supper) on occasion of Ramadan. The supper was attended by diplomats from over 40 countries and Ukrainian authorities such as the presidential administration, Cabinet of Ministers, Supreme Council.
A reader of the Quran from the famous Egyptian University Al-Azhar and member of the Academic Council of Egypt, Sheikh Ahmed As-Said Mutawalli, was an honorary guest of the event.
The event began with Azan and evening namaz. The participants were greeted by the Deputy Head of the State Committee on Nationalities and Religions and Mufti of Ukraine, Sheikh Ahmed Tamim. In his address, the mufti also wished Ukraine, of which Muslims are an integral part, prosperity and stability. He also stressed that he has been working for peace and agreement in the multinational Ukrainian society since the beginning of his activity in the Board of Muslims.
Additional Information:
In addition to festivals, Muslims also mark religious events. They organize meetings and receptions in the Mosques and, during fasts, they organize iftars (evening suppers where Muslims communicate with each other). On some of these days, additional worship is performed such as the reading of the Quran, Zikra (praise of God), additional Namazes (prayers).
One of the main objectives of an iftar during Ramadan is to familiarize the society with the life of Ukrainian Muslims.
