In 2022, in Ukraine, the number of believers increased: while in 2021, 67.8% recognized themselves as believers, in 2022, 74.1% did so. Such data were made public today at the Professional discussion "War and the Church. Church and religious situation in Ukraine-2022", organized by the Razumkov Center and the Representation of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Ukraine.

These are the results of the national survey conducted by the sociological service of the Razumkov Center in November 2022.

Compared to previous years, the highest level religiosity was marked in 2014 — 76%, and the lowest — in 2019.

At the same time, over the past year, the number of those who hesitate between belief and disbelief has decreased — from 13 to 12.2%, non-believers — from 5.7 to 4.8%, convinced atheists — from 3.4 to 2, 1% and those indifferent to religion — from 6.1 to 4.5%.

Moreover, by region, the percentage of believers increased in the center (from 63.5 to 75.9%) and in the east (from 59.2 to 63.2%) of the country. In fact it did not change in the south (61.4-61.2%) ), but decreased in the west — from 87.1 to 84.3%.

Regarding age, the biggest changes affected the youngest generation — those aged 18-24. The percentage of believers among them increased from 48.2 to 60.6%, and among those aged 25-29 — from 56.1 to 65.1%. Growth was also recorded in other age categories: those aged 30-39 — from 67.1 to 72.6%; aged 40-49 — from 67.8 to 75.4%; aged 50-59 — from 73.4 to 76.3%; 60 and older — from 75.2 to 79.1%.

Among those who identified themselves with a certain denomination, 88% are believers of the OCU, 92.4% — of the UOC-MP, 73.4% — simply Orthodox, 95.6% — of the Greek Catholics, 91.9% — Protestants, and 54.3% identified themselves as simply Christians.
