Eparchy of Ternopil-Zboriv of the UGCC elected an auxiliary bishop

For the Eparchy of Ternopil-Zboriv of the UGCC, an auxiliary bishop has been elected - photo 1 On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, the press service of the Vatican announced that His Holiness Pope Francis has approved the decision of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC to elect Father Volodymyr Firmán as an auxiliary bishop of the Eparchy of Ternopil-Zboriv of the UGCC. He has been given the titular see of Limisus.

Biographical Note

Bishop-elect Volodymyr Firmán was born on May 8, 1976, in the village of Zarvanytsia in the Ternopil region.

After studying at the Ternopil Higher Spiritual Seminary, on May 9, 1999, he was ordained a deacon for the Eparchy of Ternopil-Zboriv. On October 8, 2000, he received priestly ordination.

Later, he studied religious sciences (Catholic University of Lublin, 2004-2006), agronomy (Podil State Agrarian-Technical University, 2011-2013), and administrative development (Ukrainian Catholic University, 2016).

He has held various positions, including administrator (since 2000) and later rector (since 2016) of the Mariapil Spiritual Center in Zarvanytsia, vice-rector of the Ternopil Higher Spiritual Seminary (since 2004), and economist of the Eparchy of Ternopil-Zboriv (since 2004). He has also served periodically as a military chaplain-volunteer (since 2014).

In addition to Ukrainian, he is fluent in German, Polish, and Russian.
