The European Union plans to impose sanctions against the head of the Russian Orthodox Church Kirill.

The agency refers to the relevant EU document but does not provide more details. "The EU proposes to impose sanctions on the head of the Russian Orthodox Church," the agency said in a statement.

A group of MPs from different factions plan to submit it to the National Security and Defense Council for consideration of the proposals to apply sanctions against four representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, in particular the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill.

Earlier, the fifth President Petro Poroshenko and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania urged to impose sanctions against Kirill.
