But now the 49-year-old priest, who is originally from Nottingham, has accepted a request from the head of Ukrainian Catholics in Great Britain, Bishop Hlib Lonchyna, to become the national administrator of the church.
“It is a great honor. After the bishop, in effect, he will be second in command,” said Yaroslaw Tymchyshyn, a spokesperson for the Bolton branch of the Association of Ukrainians in Britain.
“Fr. Andriy has been a wonderful priest. People are really upset that he is going,” said Mr. Tymchyshyn.
