This story dates back to 1998. The old synagogue is an architectural monument of local significance and the state property which can be seen in the city center, not far from the new city hall. However, the thick-walled one-storey building no longer hosts the synagogue.

Rebecca Simon, a Jewish woman, together with her son (now living in Canada), whose ancestor -- who once lived in Chortkiv and was buried in the city central cemetery -- created a fund and expressed his willingness to rebuild the premises.

After signing the statement of acceptance, the commission members and representatives of the Chortkiv Jewish community visited the premises on the territory of the Chortkiv State Medical College and examined its condition.
