Four new bishops were elected by the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for Australia, following a proposal by Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

These are the Bishop of Sozopolis, a position which will be taken by Archimandrite Kyriakos, of Magnesia by Archimandrite Christodoulos, of Kerasounta by Archimandrite Eumenios, and of Charioupolis by Archimandrite Prochoros.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew elevated the Diocese of Dervis into a Metropolis under Bishop Ezekiel.

The Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate meets for the second day in the Phanar, under the chairmanship of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
