On the 150th anniversary of birth of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytskyy, the Government of Ukraine adopted a decision to set up twenty Andrey Sheptytskyy scholarships and the Ministry of Culture together with Lviv regional state administration were entrusted to prepare an action plan and funding for the establishment of Andrey Sheptytskyy museum in Ukraine.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk was reported by Government portal as saying this at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday on July 29.
These scholarships symbolize the two leading high aspirations of the Metropolitan: All-Ukraine unity and education of people. Therefore, according to the Head of Government, the scholarshipswill be assignedto Western universities undergraduates who perform graduate studies at universities in the South and East of the country, and the young men and women from Eastern and Southern Ukraine who explore Western Ukraine in the universities of this region.”
Scholarships will be allocated to 20 students annually in the amount of 2200 hryvnia per month.
"Metropolitan Andrey spoke out that Ukrainian young people became smarter, received additional knowledge. I think we should continue the great initiative of Andrey Sheptytskyy,” he stressed.
Yatsenyuk stressed that Metropolitan Sheptytskyy was ‘a great son of the Ukrainian people’: "This is a historical figure who advocated the unity and counciliarity of Ukraine, the Ukrainian education. He wanted ustolearn to "build our native home" –it was the title of his work.”
The time finally came for the Ukrainians to get Andrey Sheptytskyy Museum, the Prime Minister says. Yatsenyuk instructed the Ministry of Culture together with Lviv Regional State Administration to immediately prepare an action plan and funding for the establishment of Andrey Sheptytskyy Museum in Ukraine.
