Greek and Roman Catholics Remember People Killed by NKVD Near Dobromyl

On the anniversary of the mass execution by Soviet NKVD officers of prisoners from Peremyshl and Dobromyl and neighbouring regions, young Ukrainians and Poles gathered on 28 April in the village of Nyzhankovychi of Staryi Sambir District of Lviv Region.

On the anniversary of the mass execution by Soviet NKVD officers of prisoners from Peremyshl and Dobromyl and neighboring regions, young Ukrainians and Poles gathered on April 28 in the village of Nyzhankovychi of the Staryi Sambir District of Lviv Oblast. On June 26-27 , 1941, NKVD officers killed several thousand prisoners at a nearby Dobromyl saltern.

The event was attended by Greek Catholic priests of Dobromyl Deanery and Roman Catholic priests of Sambir Deanery. The mass in the Polish Catholic Church in Nyzhankovychi was led by Bishop Marian Buchek of Kharkiv and Zaporizhia.

In the place of the crime, the priests prayed jointly and representatives of the authorities of Peremyshl and Stary Sambir District delivered addresses, the Catholic media center reported.
