On September 8, presidential adviser Hanna Herman spoke with Mayor of Lviv Andrii Sadovyi about the protection of the ruins of the Golden Rose Synagogue in Lviv, reported ZIK with reference to her press service.

“He assured me that the project of construction of a hotel for the fans of Euro-2012 near the ruins of the Golden Rose synagogue is suspended. I am convinced that the international community should not relax its vigilance I this matter. The place in question is dear to the Jews of the whole world. The place is important for the memory of hundreds of thousands of Jews massacred in Lviv. Even the Bolsheviks did not build anything in that place. Have we a right to be bigger barbarians than they were?” said Hanna Herman.

According to Mrs. Herman, she was glad to hear Andrii Sadovyi’s assurance that the project of construction has been suspended. “But I am afraid that it will be renewed. I address the investor to whom the local authorities sold the plot for construction: I am asking him to give up this business project.” This profit will bring no good. It will be the most shamefully earned money. The Bolsheviks once built clubs in the places of our burnt churches and graves in church cemeteries. And danced on the bones… Should one continue this logical chain? This historic place in Lviv should be preserved,” she stated.
