Head of the UGCC met with new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine

The Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church His Beatitude Sviatoslav held a working meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine Valdemaras Sarapinas.

First and foremost the Ambassador enquired about the conditions of collaboration between the Church and the state. Particularly he wondered about how the UGCC was performing during the quarantine and what was the Church’s attitude toward vaccination.

The Head of the Church in turn shared news about how the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches had been working and which common goals were possible to achieve concerning issues mentioned about.

In the matter of vaccination, the Major Archbishop said that there is no religious ground for avoiding vaccination, whereas vaccination must be accessible, safe and voluntary-based.

The participants in the meeting also talked about the Ukrainians who head for Lithuania to get a work and the position of the Church in terms of providing pastoral care for the emigrants.

Last but not least, the parties discussed the relationship between the Church, Lithuanians and the state.
