Christian leaders of Ukraine published a declaration on the negative attitude to the sin of homosexuality, problems of its propagation in the society, and attempts to legalize same-sex marriages.
The heads of nine churches of Ukraine presented a joint position, which argues that the struggle for the legalization of same-sex marriages and human rights are not closely related concepts, reports the Institute of Religious Freedom.
The heads of the churches consider the statements that same-sex sexuality is an inborn variant of the norm false.
According to the hierarchs, “In reality such sinful inclination is not either an inborn specificity of a person or a variant of the normal sexual behavior. From the Biblical viewpoint, same-sex sexuality is the result of a personal free but erroneous choice of a person and a manifestation of a deeply rooted sin.”
The Christian leaders are convinced that same-sex relations are definitely a sin.
The declaration reads that believers have no hatred or bias to persons with homosexual inclinations. At the same time, according to the hierarchs, Christians cannot put up with homosexuality and other immoral actions and their propaganda as phenomena of spiritual and social life. “Those who support the propagation of homosexuality cannot be considered Christians,” reads the document.
The declaration was signed by the heads of nine Churches: Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate, Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate, Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine, All-Ukrainian Union of Churches of Evangelical Christian Baptists, Church of Christians of Evangelical Church of Ukraine, Ukrainian Christian Evangelical Church, Brotherhood of Independent Churches and Mission of Evangelical Christian Baptists of Ukraine and Ukrainian Lutheran Church.
