The Ukrainian Center for Fatwas and Research, referring to the resolution of the European Council for FATV and research and the resolution of the Diyanet of the Republic of Turkey, declares Thursday, May 13, as a holiday of Eid al-Fitr (Ramadan Bayram).
"This year, the new moon, symbolizing the end of the holy month of Ramadan, will astronomically take place on Tuesday, May 11 at 18.59 GMT (21.59 Kyiv time), but in this position, the new moon will not be observed anywhere on Earth," Sheikh Said Ismagilov said on his Facebook page. "Accordingly, the month of Shawwal in 1442, according to Islamic norms, cannot begin the next day. Therefore, on Wednesday, May 12, all Muslims are required to continue fasting. However, on Wednesday evening, May 12, the new moon can be observed after sunset with the naked eye over South and North America, West Africa, The Atlantic and Pacific oceans, and with the help of optical instruments over Southern Europe and over Arabia."
"Following the guidance of the messenger of Allah, the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him!): "When you see a new moon, fast. And when we see it again (in a month), end the fast" - we are obliged to accept the fact of a new moon, which indicates the end of Ramadan, even if the new moon is not visible in our country," says the head of the spiritual administration of Muslims of Ukraine "Umma".
Therefore, the Ukrainian Center for Fatwas and Research declares Thursday, May 13, to be the holiday of Eid al-Fitr (Ramadan Bayram).
