Based on evidence gathered by the Security Service, three more Russian agents who were spying in Donetsk Oblast received 15-year prison sentences and had their property confiscated.
This was reported by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).
According to the case files, three residents of the Donetsk region were convicted for their activities while awaiting the complete occupation of the area. They drew the attention of Russian special services due to comments they made on Telegram channels.
The investigation revealed that these individuals provided the FSB with the coordinates of the Ukrainian Defense Forces engaged in combat at the front in Pokrovsk. The enemy was particularly interested in the geolocation of headquarters, command posts, and the routes used by Ukrainian Armed Forces military equipment heading towards the front line.
One of the detainees is a 43-year-old resident of the city of Ukrainka. He worked at a local Ukrzaliznytsia station, where he spied on trains carrying Defense Forces personnel. His next assignment was to plant an improvised explosive device (IED) under the railroad tracks to disrupt the Armed Forces' transport logistics to the front line. However, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) apprehended him in May 2023 while he was preparing to carry out the sabotage.
Another convicted individual is the 22-year-old daughter of the rector of the UOC-MP church in Pokrovsk. She monitored the routes of Ukrainian troops for the occupiers by installing a video camera under the church dome.
The third perpetrator is a 34-year-old employee of Ukrzaliznytsia from the city of Rodynske. He relayed information to the FSB regarding the locations of bridges that the Ukrainian Armed Forces convoys used to advance to the eastern front.
Based on the evidence collected by SBU investigators, the court found the defendants guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to treason committed under martial law. The investigation was carried out by SBU officers in the Donetsk, Luhansk, and Cherkasy regions with the procedural oversight of the Donetsk and Cherkasy regional prosecutor's offices.
