Kyiv Court Bans Gay Parade
Ukrainian authorities should allow the Kyiv Pride Equality March, scheduled for May 25, 2013, to proceed and protect its participants from violence, Human Rights Watch said on 21 May.
In a letter sent to Kyiv's city administration on May 21, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International urged the office not to ban the Equality March, and to protect its participants from violence.
City officials have petitioned local courts to ban all rallies on May 25 that aren’t related to celebrating the capital’s annual city day, including one that calls for equal treatment of sexual minorities and social groups that was planned 10 months in advance.
Kyiv's District Administrative Court has satisfied on 23 May a petition by the city authorities to ban the holding of any events, other than those envisaged by the program for the celebration of Kyiv City Day, on May 25 in the central part of the city. So reported Ukrainian Truth.
