Kyiv-Zhytomyr Diocese of Roman Catholic Church Celebrates Three Anniversaries
On May 10, the Kyiv-Zhytomyr Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church celebrated the 50th anniversary of priestly and the 20th anniversary of bishop’s ministry of Ordinary Bishop Jan Purwinski. In addition, it has been 20 years since the diocese was established. Bishop Jan Purwinski became the first bishop in this region after 1918.
During the celebratory service, the bishop was greeted by Roman Catholic bishops from Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania, a representative of the Holy See, the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Patriarch Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), Archbishop Iziaslav of Zhytomyr and Ovruch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate, Bishop Volodymyr of Zhytomyr and Polissia of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, the bishop of the Center of Association of Christian Evangelical Churches of Ukraine, a pastor of the Zhytomyr Church “Testament of Jesus Christ” of Christians of Evangelical Faith, Oleksandr Dekhtiarenko, and about 120 priests of the diocese.
