Kyivan Bishop Calls For Prayer For Russian Patriarch Alexis II

26.11.2002, 16:39

Bishop Klyment of Simferopol and Crimea of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) has stated that all disputes should be disregarded and his church should pray for the health of Russian Orthodox Patriarch Alexis II, who was hospitalized in late October. This news was reported by Radio “Svoboda” (Liberty) on 25 November 2002.

According to Bishop Klyment, Patriarch Filaret, head of the UOC-KP, is also asking for prayer for the health of the Moscow patriarch. He stated that there are no conflicts between the two Orthodox churches on the Crimean peninsula. However, he also thinks that the preferential attitude of the Crimean authorities towards the local eparchy of the Moscow Patriarchate has been condemned by believers of other denominations.
