Kyivan Patriarchate Marks Ivan Mazepa’s Annivesary

On March 20, 2010, in Baturyn, the 371st anniversary of the birth of Ukraine’s Hetman Ivan Mazepa was marked with the participation f the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate.

BATURYN — On March 20, 2010, in Baturyn, the 371st anniversary of the birth of Ukraine’s Hetman Ivan Mazepa was marked with the participation f the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate. Bishop Ilarion of Chernihiv and Nizhyn celebrated a liturgy in the Church of the Holy Resurrection, after which he celebrated a Lithia for the repose of the hetman and all the innocent victims of the Baturyn mass massacre of Ukrainians by the Russian troops.

According to the press service of the Chernihiv Eparchy, the hierarch noticed in his sermon the considerable contribution of Hetman Ivan Mazepa in the development of the Ukrainian Cossack state and his charitable activities for the establishment and development of spirituality and Orthodox faith of the Ukrainian nation.

After the prayer, flowers were laid at the cross erected in memory of the victims of the Baturyn tragedy.
