Director of the TauricChersoneseReserve, priest of the UOC (MP) SerhiyHalyuta decided to resign, according to Minister of Culture Vladimir Medynskyy.

Director of the Tauric Chersonese Reserve, priest of the UOC (MP) Serhiy Halyuta decided to resign, according to Minister of Culture Vladimir Medynskyy.

“Having considered the situation, Serhiy Halyuta decided to step aside, allowing Sevastopol governor to offer a third candidate for the post of Director of Tauric Chersonese reserve,”Medynskyytold the reporters.

Archpriest Serhiy Halyuta was appointed director of the Tauric Chersonese National Reservein Sevastopol by decision of Governor Serhiy Menyaylo of 29 July. The governor assured that this appointment would not affect the research work of the Reserve. The researchers of Chersonese Reserve were against this decision and expressed concerns that the research center with its 200-yearhistory would be destroyed in the clergyman’s tenure.

On August President Vladimir Putin decided to accept theTauric Chersonese Reserve, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, under the federal jurisdiction and ordered to include it in the list of especially valuable objects of cultural heritage of Russia, RIA Novosti reported.
