The Bread of Life Malochernetchyn Icon of Christ the Savior, which was lost nearly one hundred years ago, has returned to the north-eastern Ukrainian city of Sumy. According to UNIAN, the icon was found by a collector of religious paintings from Donetsk who freely passed it to the Cathedral of Transfiguration of the Savior in Sumy.

According to the tradition, the shrine of the 18th century once saved Sumy from cholera. The wonder-working icon was carried to the cathedral in a religious procession after which a liturgy was celebrated.

"It is a special day. Today, the residents of Sumy and Sumy Region meet the once lost and now found Bread of Life Malochernetynsk Icon of Christ the Savior. I think and I am convinced that the return of the icon and our celebratory liturgy are indications that God is with us, that God blesses Sumy Region, that  God’s blessing will be upon our whole mother Ukraine," said Bishop Yevlohii of Sumy and Okhtyrka.
