Most Rev. Borys Gudziak, Metropolitan Archbishop of the Ukrainian Catholic Archeparchy of Philadelphia and President of the Ukrainian Catholic University, has been elected chairman of the Committee on International Justice and Peace at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
This was reported on Facebook by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
“Our prayers are with the newly elected secretary and presidents as they begin their service dedicated to advancing the mission of the Church in the United States,” the statement said.
As reported by RISU, the 2025 Fall Conference of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops took place this year in Baltimore and concluded on November 12.
During this meeting, the bishops of the Roman Catholic Church in America elected a new president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops amid increasing controversy over deportation policies and the protection of migrant rights.
The new president is Archbishop Paul S. Coakley of Oklahoma City, recognized as a conservative theologian who advocates for a more active approach to social issues.
Bishop Daniel E. Flores of Texas, who has worked extensively with communities along the Mexican border and has consistently supported immigrant families, was elected as his deputy.
