In occupied Donbas, Pro-Russian militants and the Russian military tortured priests for helping the Ukrainian military servicemen.

The office of the Prosecutor General instituted criminal proceedings on the facts of violence towards the priests (UOC-KP until December 15. 2018, OCU afterwards) in the temporarily occupied territory of the Donetsk region by the occupation administration of the Russian Federation and its illegal armed groups, Religious Truth reports citing the Spiritual Front of Ukraine.

The case was instituted on the basis of an appeal from the Donetsk diocese of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine that militants systematically use physical and psychological violence against the laity and clergy.

“The appeal also states that two priests were kidnapped by members of an illegal armed group of the Russian Federation, were taken outside the settlement and subjected to physical violence for organizing medical care for wounded Ukrainian servicemen," the report says.
