New UGCC parish established in Sweden

16 April, 11:13

The Apostolic Exarchate for Ukrainians of the Eastern Rite in Germany and Scandinavia is expanding its structures. The establishment of a new parish in the southern region of Sweden represents a significant milestone for the Ukrainian community in that area.

This was reported on the Apostolic Exarchate's website.

With the blessing of Bishop Bohdan Dzyurakh, the Parish of Saints Peter and Paul was officially established in Malmö. On the same day, the appointment of the community's new pastor, Fr. Andrii Petryshyn, was announced.

The solemn proclamation of the parish and the introduction of the new priest took place on April 11 during the Divine Liturgy, which was presided over for this occasion by the dean of the Scandinavian Deanery, Fr. Andrii Melnychuk.

The history of Ukrainian pastoral ministry in this region has deep roots. Since 2002, Fr. Myroslav Kostiv has served the Ukrainian community here. Thanks to his dedicated work, numerous centers of spiritual life were established, including one in Malmö.

In response to the community's spiritual growth, a parish has been established in Malmö, which now serves as the administrative center for southern Sweden's communities. This parish oversees the communities in Kristianstad, Värnamo, Växjö, and the newly formed community in Helsingborg. Additionally, pastoral activities are expanding, with the first service in Ystad scheduled for the end of the month.

The current service schedule and updates from the parish can be followed on its official Facebook page.
