The Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, which convened on July 27 in the Congregational Hall of the Kyiv Orthodox Theological Academy, established a vicariate for the Romanian-speaking believers who live in Ukraine – a separate structure in the Church with the rights of self-governance.

This is reported by the website of the OCU.

"Taking into account the pastoral needs of the Romanian-speaking Orthodox communities in Ukraine, following the model of the Church life organization in the Romanian Orthodox Church parishes with a predominant number of ethnic Ukrainians – to form an Orthodox Romanian vicariate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Orthodox Church) for religious organizations (religious communities and monasteries) in Ukraine with a predominant number of ethnic Romanians," says the decision of the Synod.

The Romanian Orthodox vicariate of the OCU will be directly subordinated to the Primate of the Orthodox Church, His Beatitude Epifaniy, and will become a special administrative structure with the rights of self-government within the religious association of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. The religious organizations (religious communities and monasteries) with a predominant number of ethnic Romanians may enter the Orthodox Romanian vicariate of the OCU. These religious communities are guaranteed the right to select, of their own choice, the Romanian Orthodox liturgical, linguistic and calendar tradition.

The rights of self-government and organization of the Orthodox Romanian vicariate of the OCU are enshrined in the Charter of governance of the Orthodox Romanian vicariate of the OCU, which should be specially elaborated together with representatives of religious organizations wishing to join the vicariate, in fraternal cooperation with the Romanian Orthodox Church in accordance with the position expressed earlier by its Holy Synod.

The Charter of governance of the Orthodox Romanian Vicariate of the OCU was adopted by the Holy Synod of the OCU and approved by the Primate, Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine.
