Prayer meetings and Bible readings have been conducted in the Supreme Council of Ukraine each Thursday for over 4 years.

The weekly prayer meetings are attended by all interested Christian deputies including Orthodox, Catholics and Protestants. Affiliation to a political force is of no importance either. They say the prayer group includes all but Communists.

The organizer of the group, Pavlo Ungurian said that the idea was conceived in 1990-s. Similar prayer breakfasts have been conducted in the Parliaments of other countries for a long time but in Ukraine, the idea was realized only in 2008. They started with 4 people and now, the group includes 15 deputies.

“The meetings are very, very important. First of all, they are dominated by brotherly atmosphere where people share their concerns, ideas and this is the most valuable thing. Secondly, we undoubtedly constitute the core of an inter-faction group of nearly 70 deputies aimed to pass laws promoting the Christian values,” said P. Ungurian.

So reported the web site of the All-Ukrainian Union of Churches of Evangelical Christians Baptists.
