Orthodox Political Organizations Demand That Independent Status of UOC-MP Should Be Cancelled

On 5 July, an Orthodox monarchist religious procession of believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) was held.

On 5 July, an Orthodox monarchist religious procession of believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP) was held. The participants demanded to cancel the present independent status of UOC-MP and restore the Ukrainian Exarchate of the Russian Orthodox Church, which existed in the Soviet times.  So reported Religion in Ukraine with reference to New Region.

The participants held banners, demanded that the head of the Law Department of UOC-MP, Valentyn Volynets retire and welcomed the activity of the special committee headed by Metropolitan Ilarion of Donetsk which, according to them, should make alterations to the Statutes of UOC-MP to reduce its canonical rights.

The action was organized by political Orthodox organizations, Orthodox Choice, Russian Commonwealth, People’s Sobor, For Holy Rus and Orthodox Faith, Orthodox Brotherhood of Martyr Czar, Nikolai II, Orthodox Brotherhood of Lavrentii of Chernohiv, newspaper Rusychi (Sevastopol).
