Ukrainian Roman Catholics celebrate Christmas today. On Christmas Eve, in the St. Alexander Catholic Church in Kyiv a midnight Mass in the Ukrainian language was celebrated by the Papal Nuncio in Ukraine, Archbishop Thomas Edward Gullickson, in concelebration with Archbishop of Kyiv-Zhytomyr Petro Malchuk. Greek Catholic clergy also took part in the festive liturgy.

Addressing the faithful, Archbishop Gullickson noted that this is the third time he celebrates Christmas in Ukraine. He gave all those present the apostolic blessing of Pope Francis.

“Over the last month we have experienced many events in Kyiv. And there is a tendency to forget to be grateful to God. Despite the tragedy and disappointment that we have experienced, we will bring it all to the Savior who was born for us,” said the Papal Nuncio.

Since the Church of St. Alexander is located near EuroMaidan protesters who came to the capital from different regions attended the Christmas Mass in the church.
