Patriarch Filaret and U.S. Ambassador Discuss International Relations and Ukraine’s European Integration

On September 25, 2013, the Patriarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate Filaret (Denysenko) received at his residence U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey R. Pyatt, who recently began his diplomatic service in Ukraine.

According to the press service of the Kyivan Patriarchate, the patriarch and the ambassador discussed a wide range of issues at the meeting. The parties exchanged views on the status and prospects of interfaith, interreligious, and church-state relations in Ukraine and discussed a number of social developments that are taking place in the country, particularly issues of international relations and European integration of Ukraine.

The meeting was held in a warm atmosphere of mutual understanding.

At the end of the meeting, Patriarch Filaret presented the ambassador with a photo album “The Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyivan Patriarchate.” He wished Ambassador Pyatt God's blessing and success in his work in strengthening relations between Ukraine and the USA.

The meeting was also attended by the administrator of the Kyivan Patriarchate, Bishop Agapit of Vyshhorod, and officials from the embassy.
