On October 10, a meeting of the Academic Council of the University took place at Bohomolets National Medical University dedicated to awarding the distinction of Doctor Honoris Causa of Bohomolets National Medical University on Patriarch Filaret of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine.
Together with the Patriarch, the Metropolitan Epifaniy of Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky and Bila Tserkva, as well as the vice-rector for the academic work of the Kyiv Orthodox Theological Academy, archpriest Vitaliy Klos, took part in the meeting of the Academic Council, according to the official website of the Kyiv Patriarchate.
The rector of the university, Member of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Professor Kateryna Amosova, presenting the Patriarch's Diploma and the Regalia of the Doctor Honoris Causa, noted that the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is worthy of this reward, since at all times of the establishment of independent Ukraine, he had always stood by his people, in the most difficult historical moments of the formation of Ukraine he became a prominent figure and the spiritual leader of the nation.
In her speech, Amosova also remembered the events of the Revolution of Dignity, when, with the blessing of Patriarch Filaret, St Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery received inside its walls the beaten students, and the refectory temple later became a field hospital where surgical operations on the victims were carried out. After the procedure of awarding Patriarch Filaret, “Many Years” were sung.
Patriarch Filaret of Kyiv and All Russia-Ukraine, for his part, thanked the staff of the medical university for having conferred the distinction, noting that both doctors and clergymen have a common calling – treatment of man. The first treat the body, others - the soul.
He donated the icon of the Holy Martyr and Healer Panteleimon to the university community as well as books.
