Patriarch Filaret Calls for End to Violence

On Tuesday at 6 p.m. the press service of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) issued a statement from Patriarch Filaret on Tuesday’s bloodshed in Kyiv and threats from the security forces and the government to clear the Maidan.

The head of the UOC-KP emphasizes that the church today has a duty to reiterate: “Stop the violence immediately!”

Patriarch Filaret once again called on the president, the leaders of the opposition, and civic activists to postpone prosecution and immediately resume negotiations and reach a positive result. The head of the UOC-KP also warned Yanukovych that the most responsibility lies with him.
