Patriarch Filaret confers the order on Nadia Savchenko ‘for fight against evil’

Prisoner Nadia Savchenko was conferred on the order of St George the Trophy-Bearer.

By the Decree of Patriarch Filaret of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine, MP of Ukraine Nadia Savchenko, who is struggling for liberation from Russian captivity,was awarded the Order of St. George the Trophy-Beareron March 1, 2015.

The motto of the award is ‘for fight against evil’.

This was announced by the Patriarch in St Volodymyr’s Cathedral before the prayers for health and release of Nadia Savchenko, as reported by the Kyiv Patriarchate’s press-center.

On March 1 there was a rally in support of prisoner Nadia Savchenko, and prayer s for her were lifted in churches.

At the last meeting of the court, Savchenko was in supine position. The pilot has been on hunger strike for more than two months. On February 10,Basmanny Court of Moscow extended Nadia Savchenko’s custody term till 13 May. Nadia believes that she will last at least another two weeks.

Today president Petro Poroshenko has awarded the title "Hero of Ukraine" to people's deputy of Ukraine, member of the Ukrainian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Nadiya Savchenko. The Head of State has signed the respective Decree. "Nadiya is a symbol of unbroken Ukrainian spirit and heroism, a symbol of the way one should defend and love Ukraine, a symbol of our victory," the President said.
