The church’s most notable contribution to reconciliation in Ukraine is prayer. This opinion was expressed by the Patriarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyivan Patriarchate (UOC-KP) in an interview with Radio Svoboda.

“We want and our church, the Kyivan Patriarchate, other Orthodox Christian churches, and other religions in Ukraine to make a contribution. What is our contribution? Our contribution is prayer to God,” he said.

“Because those who stand on Maidan believe in God, and those who are in power also believe in God. So this faith in God must be proved by deeds. And if you say that you are a believer, that you are a Christian, and kill people, then what kind of Christian are you if you kill people or give orders to kill?” continued the Primate.

The killers, he said, sooner or later will suffer just punishment.

“You are responsible before God, and God is slow to anger but just, and this will end and the mood of the people must be considered. He is not afraid of death. And who overcame the fear of death in their hearts? The grace of the Holy Spirit overcame the fear. And such people are invincible,” said the patriarch.
