Patriarch Sviatoslav: Development of Church Media Is One of Its Priorities

11.12.2011, 11:53

According to the head of UGCC, the development of the church media is one of the priority objectives of the church.

“We take the presence of our church in the modern information space very seriously. In particular, we plan to create an Internet television, social network, and this press conference is an expression of respect for the work of the journalists,” Patriarch Sviatoslav (Shevchuk) said on December 9, 2011, at a press conference in the city of Odesa during his pastoral visit to the Odesa and Crimea Exarchate of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC).

According to the head of UGCC, the development of the church media is one of the priority objectives of the church. Today, the question is being discussed whether to establish a printed edition or Internet edition to provide information for the eparchies and exarchates in Ukraine and abroad. “We understand that such an edition, which would speak the truth about our church, is absolutely necessary,” stressed the Greek Catholic head.

In addition, Patriarch Sviatoslav noted that we often can see the Ukrainian society living in captivity of the Soviet ideology as far as its attitude to certain churches or history of Ukraine is concerned.

“One should understand that ideology not always has something to do with historic truth or justice,” he concluded.

“We badly need an edition which would reveal such truths, and I hope that we will soon have one,” said the patriarch in conclusion, the Information Department of UGCC reported.
