Patriarch Sviatoslav Votes in Rome
The head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Patriarch Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), voted in Rome, in the Consular Department of the Ukrainian Embassy in Italy. The Primate was accompanied by Ukraine’s Ambassador to the Apostolic See, Tetiana Izhevska, the press service of the UGCC in Italy reported.
The head of the UGCC thanked the members of the precinct and the observers for their honesty and efforts to ensure the fair expression of the electors’ will of Ukrainian migrants. In a talk with voters, Patriarch Sviatoslav said that he prayed in St. Peter’s Basilica for fair elections in Ukraine.
“There were very many negative things in the pre-election period. I could see that people were afraid for their future and that of the country. In order to dispel that fear by the fear of God, I addressed the citizens before the voting, asking them to show courage and vote honestly and be active to let God act. For the Lord speaks to the society and the whole country through human conscience,” said the primate.
According to the head of the precinct, Oles Horodetskyi, 2,300 voters were registered in Rome. Ukrainian citizens living in the territory of the Consular Circuit of Ukraine’s embassy in Italy, who were included in the lists of the voters, were able to participate in the voting. Seminary students, priests and monks of UGCC in Italy came first to vote.
