Pope Francis extended the mandate of the Head of the UGCC to the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity

By a separate decree, His Holiness Francis extended His Beatitude Sviatoslav's membership mandate to the Pontifical Council to the Promotion of the Unity of Christians.

This was stated by Cardinal Kurt Koch, President of this dicastery of the Vatican Curia, in a letter to the Head of the UGCC, informs Secretariat of the Head of the UGCC in Rome.  

The decision of the Holy Father, referred to in the letter of Cardinal Koch, "strengthens our close cooperation with you and gives us an opportunity to further enrich ourselves with your competence by harmoniously combining your duties and responsibility with those which our Father instructed to our dicastery."

This is the second five-year mandate of the Beatitude Sviatoslav's membership in the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of Christian Unity since his election as the Head of the UGCC. There are 15 Cardinals and other Ecumenical Dialogue experts in this decasteria. The task of the Council is to cultivate an authentic ecumenical spirit in accordance with the decree of the Second Vatican Council "Unitatis redentigratio" and cooperation with other Christian churches.
