Pope Leo XIV supports 'Worldwide Prayer for Ukraine' initiative

25.08.2025, 14:52

After reciting the Angelus prayer on Ukraine's national holiday, Pope Leo XIV greeted the faithful and invited them to participate in the prayer initiative.

This was reported by Vatican News.

“Last Friday, August 22, we dedicated our prayers and fasting to our brothers and sisters who suffer because of war. Today we join our Ukrainian brothers and sisters who, through the spiritual initiative 'Worldwide for Ukraine', are asking the Lord to grant peace to their war-torn country,” said Pope Leo XIV on August 24, 2025, addressing pilgrims gathered at noon in St. Peter's Square for the Angelus prayer.

The pontiff expressed his support for the initiative launched by the organizing committee of the "National Prayer Breakfast of Ukraine," which has been endorsed by the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (UCCRO). He shared the appeal with religious leaders, clergy, religious communities, and believers worldwide. In the appeal, the UCCRO asks that a special prayer for Ukraine and its people be held on August 24, 2025, or on the nearest day of worship to that date. His Holiness encourages believers to show solidarity with those who are suffering during this time.
