President Petro Poroshenko believes that Ukraine has made the right choice by asking the Ecumenical Patriarchate to grant autocephaly to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

“Following up on the Kremlin’s initiative, the dependent Russian church authorities declare the breakup of the Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople. This response of the spiritual and secular power of the Russian Federation to the aspirations of Ukrainians and the decision of the Ecumenical Patriarchate means we are on the right path,” head of State said on Twitter, according to the TSN.

At a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church held in Minsk on October 15, a decision was made that the Russian Orthodox Church would completely break the relationship with the Constantinople Patriarchate. Also, the Russian Orthodox Church has stated they will not accept and will not comply with the decision of Constantinople regarding Ukraine.
