President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko believes it is the community and notthe government who should assess the hierarchs’ actions.

The President said this at a briefing at the shooting range in Chernihiv region, as reported by depo.ua.

“It is not the government who should assess the hierarchs of Churches. I think that this assessment is to be given by people and parishioners,” said the president answering the question whether the government should give assessment to the actions of the hierarchs of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate), who failed to honor the ATO participants on May 8 during the commemorative meeting at the Ukrainian Parliament, UNIAN reports.

As you know, during the solemn meeting of 8 May,the UOC (MP) hierarchs, headed by Metropolitan Onufriy did not rise from their seats when Poroshenko read out the heroes’ names, while all the others in the room stood up.

Subsequently, the UOC (MP) explained that Metropolitan Onufriy did not rise together with others because he“opposed the war.”
