On the fourth anniversary of the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, an ecumenical service for peace was held in Berlin, attended by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife, Elke Büdenbender.

This was reported by Ukrinform, citing the press service of the Federal President of Germany.

“On February 24, Federal President Steinmeier and Elke Büdenbender participated in an ecumenical prayer for peace at the French Church, Friedrichstadtkirche, in Berlin,” the statement said.

Alongside the German head of state, the service was attended by Ukrainian Ambassador Oleksii Makeiev, as well as other members of the diplomatic corps, officials from Berlin, and members of the Bundestag.

The day before, on February 23, Steinmeier met with Ukrainian Ambassador Makeiev and reaffirmed Germany's commitment to supporting Ukraine. He stated, “Our goal remains unchanged: to end the war as quickly as possible and to achieve a stable, lasting, and just peace for Ukraine. Germany is actively working on this at the international level.”

The German president emphasized that Ukraine can always count on Germany's support in its resistance to Russian aggression. He said, “Ukraine can rely on Germany's support, particularly due to the strong willingness of our citizens to offer help. However, we must continue our efforts: Ukraine needs our assistance as long as this war, which violates international law, continues, and even after it ends.”
