President: Divine service will be performed in Ukrainian in areas of compact residence of Ukrainians in Romania

The parties say that the Church is an important factor of public life of the two countries and enjoys high level of social trust in both Ukraine and Romania.

The Head of State informed Patriarch Daniel on the aspiration of the Ukrainian Orthodox community to restore unity of the Ukrainian Orthodoxy, establish the Autocephalous Local Orthodox Church and achieve its recognition by the world Orthodoxy.

Petro Poroshenko urged the Patriarch to facilitate performance of divine service in Ukrainian in the areas of compact residence of Ukrainians in Romania. Patriarch Daniel supported this initiative.

“We had a very constructive discussion with His Holiness today about the ways to help Ukrainians in Romania attend the divine service in Ukrainian. We agreed that in the course of my next visit to Bucharest, we will jointly attend the divine service in Ukrainian,” Petro Poroshenko said following the meeting with Patriarch Daniel of Romania.
