The President stressed that over the past two years Ukraine has been holding back the enemy not only by the force of arms of the Ukrainian soldiers, but also through spiritual strength and unity of the Ukrainian people. A crucial role herein is played by military chaplains.

As part of the activities to commemorate the 71st anniversary of the victory over Nazism in World War II, a prayer service was held on St Volodymyr’s Hill, which was attended by over 140 military chaplains and more than 300 soldiers.

“May God save us from the foreign invasion and help liberate our country from the aggression. Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory to Ukraine!” said the President.

The President stressed that over the past two years Ukraine has been holding back the enemy not only by the force of arms of the Ukrainian soldiers, but also through spiritual strength and unity of the Ukrainian people. A crucial role herein is played by military chaplains.

“Fear can be defeated by faith, and the priests, who stay beside soldiers, strengthen their faith. Being at risk between life and death, you have helped a large number of Ukrainian soldiers to find their way to God. You have enshrined in their minds a firm belief that the protection of the homeland is disposition of God,” he said.

The President has stressed that the Ukrainian military chaplains are also defenders of the Homeland, as they are constantly under fire, and run the risk of getting in the encirclement or captured, going through all the difficulties of military life. Over a hundred military chaplains serve in the ATO zone daily, and for the past two years the authorities of various Ukrainian ecclesiastical jurisdictions have sent to the front-line overall 600 priests. "You are worthy citizens of Ukraine, and your patriotism has been confirmed by your actions. Thank you for the service of Ukraine and its glorious army,” he said.

The President once again pointed to the need of unity for Ukraine’s victory. “It is finally the time when the Red Army soldiers and soldiers of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army together celebrate the victory over Nazism. They were united by you – their grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who protect Ukraine today shoulder to shoulder,” he said. It has been reported by the official website of the President of Ukraine.
