Question of Introduction of Institute of Military Chaplaincy in Ukraine Raised

On 26 February, the first meeting of the Council on Pastoral Care of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in 2013 was held.

On February 26, the first meeting of the Council on Pastoral Care of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine in 2013 was held. The meeting was opened by the chairman of the council, Bishop Stanislav Shyrokoradiuk. Deputy Minister A. Sokolov outlined joint objectives of the council for 2013.

According to the press service of the Department of Chaplaincy, the deputy head of the Department of the Patriarchal Curia of UGCC on pastoral care for the defense and law enforcement agencies of Ukraine, Fr. Lubomyr Yavorskyi, reported on the results of the participation of the council representatives in the annual International Conference of Military Chaplains in Stockholm.

Participation of priests in manning the peace missions in the recent years was discussed. The participants raised the question of introduction of the institute of military chaplaincy in Ukraine.
