Traditional Prayer for Peace, initiated by the Community of Sant'Egidio was held on 8 April in the capital Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. Alexander. The prayer service was attended by clergy of the Roman, Greek Catholic and Lutheran churches, and faithful of various denominations.
They prayed for peace all over the word, mentioned the names of those who lost their lives in the name of Christ over the past years. They remembered Christians killed in the East of our country, praying for the fastest end the war, for the onset of peace.
Attending the prayer service was Secretary General of Sant'Egidio prof. Roccucci Adriano, who said in his speech: “A week ago in Kenya Christian students were murdered ... The list of people who have died for their faith in Christ in recent years has become large enough – there are Orthodox, Catholics, Protestants. The Community of Sant'Egidio all over the world incessantly prays for those who gave their lives for the Gospel. The participants from Ukraine, Russia and Poland have joined the prayer.”
The interreligious prayer has brought together many people, the vast majority of the audience have been youth and children. Remembering the names of the deceases, the community members lit candles for them. They prayed for the Christians affected by communist regimes and Islamic extremists. They prayed for cease of terrorist attacks, for protection of Christians so that the Lord heard the prayer and granted peace and tranquility in Ukraine and worldwide, reports RISU journalist Iryna Ryndych.
