Religious literature was presented on Lviv's Forum of Publishers

At this year’s Forum of Publishers, which was held in Lviv from 16 to 19 September, religious literature was duly represented among other editions. It was primarily thanks to “Svichado” Publishers who drew the attention of the whole Ukraine to its new edition, a book “Sex which you do not know. For God-loving married couples by a capuchin monk from Poland, Ksaverii Knots. The author of the sensational new edition became an honorary guest of the Forum of Publishers and talked to a full house at his presentation. But the religious literature was duly presented at the forum not only by “Svichado.” Natalia YURAKH prepared a review of religious publishing houses which participated in the forum.

At this year’s Forum of Publishers, which was held in Lviv from 16 to 19 September, religious literature was duly represented among other editions. In particular, the publishing house “Missionary” presented a project “Let us imitate together.” It is a non-commercial project aimed to spread Christian printed matter. During a meeting with the readers, the publishers presented books of a cardinal, Jesuit, former rector of the Roman Gregorian University, Bishop Carlo Maria Martini, “Boldness of passion” and “On wings of freedom.” A known intellectual, supporter of a dialogue with representatives of other denominations and a leading figure in the European ecumenism and New Testament scholar, Carlo Maria Martini, in his book “Boldness of Passion,” writes about a modern person and the dilemma of choice they are faced with. The book “On wings of freedom” contains meditations on the human freedom on the basis of the Epistle to Romans.

This year, a book of Battista Mondini, “Ontology and metaphysics,” published by the “Missionary,” was also presented at the Forum’s competition “Best book of Forum-2010.” The known Italian historian, philosopher and Theologian, Battista Mondini once was awarded the Dante Alighieri’s Golden Medal for that work. The publishing house also offered to its readers such new editions as “Dictionary of Biblical Theology” compiled by Ksavie Leon Dufura, “Essay of Church History in Ukraine” by Sofron Mudryi, “Saint Francis of Assisi” by Maria Stikka as well as Ukraine’s and world’s first edition of the documents on the beatification of St. Yosafat “Holy Yosafat Kuntsevych.”  

The Publishing House of the Ukrainian catholic University presented to the guests of the forum a new extended edition “Divine Liturgy of Pre-consecrated Sacraments” and a book “Song of songs. The song of the married couple” with an introduction of Jeanfranko Ravazzi and 16 original xylographs of the 15th c.

In addition, a 6-volume book of the “elected” Vice Rector of UCU, a known publicist, religious studies expert, human rights campaigner, Myroslav Marynovych was presented. The edition was called one of the best ones presented at the forum.

The Ukrainian Bible Society presented works of Fr. Rafail Turkoniak. The first edition is a comparative text of Elysavetivske and Ostrih Gospels. Fr. Rafail said at the presentation that the book shows that the Elysavetivske Gospel is based on the Ostrih Gospel. The other book is the Pentateuch of Moses and its three translations, the Greek, Jewish and Latin ones.

Fr. Rafail said: “we plan to publish the whole Old and New Testament but not this year. I also prepare for the Ostrih Academy a Ukrainian translation of the Holy Scripture of 585 from Greek with a commentary.”  

A publishing House “Colloquium” from Cherkasy presented a unique commentary “The Old Testament on the pages of the New One,” which constitutes just the first volume of the 4-volume work which is being prepared for the print. Representatives of the publishing house noted that the leader of sales of “Colloquium” is a book “The art of understanding a text” by Kevin Vanhuzer. The book is interesting not only for theologians but also for philologists and linguists.

New editions of the religious character were presented by the publishing house “Spirit and letter” from Kyiv. Various religious editions were also presented by other publishers, such as “Light and shade” (Lviv),  the Publishing House of the National Kyiv Cave Cultural Reserve, “World of Sophia” (Uzhhorod), information and analytical agency “Our time” and others.  

The Association of Christian Publishers of Ukraine , which includes 11 publishing houses from various regions of Ukraine, presented literature at its own stand.
